The opportunity is not yet lost to push for further support for Slough residents burdened with an additional daily cost since the expansion of ULEZ.
Since the end of August, anyone with a non-compliant car driving into London’s boroughs has faced a charge of £12.50 per day.
Yet despite Slough being a mere few minutes’ drive away from the ULEZ boundary, we still have received no support for our struggling motorists.
The Slough Observer has been campaigning since the summer for residents of our town to get access to a scrappage scheme to replace their older gas guzzlers – a scheme that Londoners already have access to.
It is not fair that Slough is faced with these costs when none of our residents voted for ULEZ and no subsequent support has been given to us.
We will continue to make our dissatisfaction known to the Mayor of London and the Transport Secretary.
Our residents are not interested in a blame game of who is responsible for fixing the problem. What is important is that – with an ongoing cost-of-living crisis – people in our town are left out in the cold no longer.
We urge residents to continue signing our Change.org petition to Sadiq Khan and Mark Harper calling for a scrappage scheme for Slough.
