Windsor Farm Shop is expected to set up a new wooden shed in its courtyard for the Christmas trading period.
The four-metre by 12-metre structure will sit between the shop and the café at the site and will be installed between the end of September and the end of January each year for five years.
It replaces a larger winter marquee amid plans to “scale back” Christmas trading proposals - and was given the green light by planning officers on October 13.
The application’s covering letter reads: “Moving forward the Farm Shop would like to scale back their Christmas trading proposals and would therefore like consent to erect a new timber framed shed in the same location where the marquee has been sighted in the past.
“The proposed timber shed structure will be much smaller than the previous marquee structure and it will be more in-keeping with the existing Farm Shop buildings.”
If built as planned, the building would be built from timber and have a pitched roof covered with PVC felt.
The windows are expected to be glazed with Perspex sheeting. It will also have ramps for wheelchair access.
The planning officers’ report reads: “The temporary building would be sited within an enclosed area between the farm shop and café and would only be visible from within the site itself.
“The Conservation Officer has raised concerns that the structure would detract from the character and appearance of the existing historic buildings and the appearance of the Registered Park and Garden and would result in less than substantial harm to the setting of the farm shop buildings and the registered park and garden.
“However, it would only be for a temporary period and the timber structure would be smaller and more in keeping with the existing Farm Shop buildings than the previous marquee and therefore this harm is considered to be limited.”
While the site falls within the Green Belt, officers deemed the proposal’s temporary nature and connection with the business to be suitably mitigating factors.
Under approval conditions, the structure is set to be fully removed and the land restored to its former condition by January 31, 2029.
