With opinions about Slough often being quite negative, we thought it would be a good idea to shine a light on some of the positives about the town.

On Saturday, October 7, we asked our readers: "What are the best and worst things about living in Slough?"

Hundreds of readers chipped in, many sharing their woes with the area.

However, some readers pulled through and shared what they love about Slough.

The overwhelming consensus was that the people of Slough were the best thing about the town.

This was a belief first shared by Russ Bourner and Siobhan Dauti.

Andreas Schneider also said the best thing about the area is the "people and the communities".

"There is a lot of creativity in Slough," they added.

Others mentioned the green spaces as one of the best things about the area.

Jezzer Windeatt said Herschel Park is their favourite thing about Slough, with Derek John Walker agreeing that the country parks and countryside are fantastic.

Gagan Kaur Bajaj who has since moved out of the area said: "I miss Slough! You take it for granted when you no longer live there.

"Where I live now is so congested, and literally a concrete jungle compared to Slough and the open spaces and greenery."

Meanwhile Bonnie Tallulah Pink said: "As a mum, I would say the best thing is the amount of quite good schools in this area."

The transport links have also been commended as one of the best things about Slough, with ease of access to the likes of Paddington via the Elizabeth Line.

Ray Morrissey said: "The best thing - trains run through the night from Paddington and Ealing to Slough apart from Saturday nights and easy to get into London and back."

Loretta Bythewater further emphasised the road connections: "You are five minutes from Windsor, five minutes to black park, five minutes to Langley Park, 10 minutes to Burnham Beeches, five minutes to Jubilee River. Start appreciating what is on your doorstep, it's not all about the shopping."

The diverse range of food has also been highlighted as a positive about the area.

Edward Davies said: "The best thing is the food."

Lara Carol Deen added: "The best thing about Slough is that the people are multicultural and young. There is a variety of food available from all over the world.

She continued: "We are close to Windsor and London. We have beautiful nature parks - Black Park, Langley Park."

Pat Webb summed up their thoughts on Slough by saying: "There is good and bad with every county and town you live in.

"Slough isn't that bad. I grew up in Slough. And still live here.

"You won't get any other town like ours, we are all family and friends. Especially the Britwell. We always look out for each other and stick up for the community."
