The court that Britt, of no fixed abode, had been living with his sister after recently being released from prison.
There were two other people living in the property at the time, including Britt’s brother, when in the early hours on the morning Britt became angry over someone having eaten his cereal.
He threw his bowl on the floor, shattering it, before he grabbed his sisters hair and punched her to both sides of her face.
Britt then dragged her through the hallway and into the lounge, continuing to punch her face. He strangled her twice but she cannot recall if she lost consciousness.
She began to have a panic attack while the attack continued.
The court heard Britt grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened to stab his brother who eventually managed to flee from the property.

Britt continued to assault his sister before he eventually calmed down and laid down on the floor.
He said: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” and pleaded with his sister to tell police it was someone else who assaulted her.
In a victim impact statement read out in court, Britt’s sister said she no longer feels comfortable in her own home and ‘feels scared’.
She suffered from bruising and aches across her body and a month after the attack the vision in her right eye remained blurry.
The court heard that Britt has 31 convictions for 48 previous offences including burglary, battery and a previous assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Defending Britt, his barrister said he has previously struggled, his father is in prison and he has a daughter who has been adopted.
He added: “[Britt] knows when he comes out [of prison] the difficulty is going to be how he manages and copes not having accommodation.”
A pre-sentence reporter writer described Britt as an ‘inherently violent man’.
As a result, Judge Norton sentenced Britt to three and a half years in jail extended by a year and a half due to his dangerousness.
