1. Secret garden in the heart of Slough officially opened to the public

Slough Observer:

A SECRET garden has been officially opened to the public in the heart of Slough town centre.

The garden, which was officially opened by Mayor Amjad Abbasi on Tuesday (July 18), has been created by a women's group at the Ujala Foundation community centre.

The group worked to transform a space behind the community centre that was “disused, unloved and a dumping ground for rubbish”.

2. Man jailed after a raid found hundreds of drugs in Maidenhead home

Slough Observer:

A MAN has been jailed and fined after a house raid found approximately 300 cannabis plants at a drug factory in Maidenhead.

Altin Gjura, aged 25, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty on March 28 to one count of producing a controlled drug of class B, namely cannabis in a hearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court.

At the same court, Gjura was sentenced to a year in prison and forfeiture and destruction of the cannabis and paraphernalia on Tuesday, July 18.

3. Slough landlord fined over £17k for having unlicensed properties

Slough Observer:

A LANDLORD who did not hold licences for six properties has been slammed with a criminal conviction and a hefty fine.

Susannah Meisner, London, and her two companies London Land Holdings Ltd and London Land Holdings 1 Ltd faced legal proceedings at Reading Magistrates' Court on July 6 and 7.

It followed many attempts from Slough Borough Council to contact the landlord of properties in Greenwatt Way, Primary Road, Chalvey, regarding Selective Licenses and repairs.

4. Smokeys nightclub Maidenhead legal dispute settled

Slough Observer:

A SETTLEMENT has been reached in a legal clash between a nightclub owner, the council and the developers who want to transform Maidenhead town centre.

The legal dispute arose over the redevelopment of the Nicholson shopping centre, which involves replacing the centre’s 650 homes, 60 retail and hospitality units, office space and a new multi-storey car park.

The plan involves extensive demolition, and while many affected business owners have sold their properties, Lee Page, the co-owner of Smokeys nightclub held out.

5. Woman attacked by man in the middle of the night

Slough Observer:

A WOMAN has been attacked in a residential road late at night.

At around midnight to 12.20am on Sunday, July 16, a man attacked a woman on Cippenham Lane.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following the incident.
