A WOMAN in her eighties has died in a fatal house fire in Slough.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service notified Thames Valley Police of a fire at an address in Welland Close at around 6pm yesterday (July 22).

The fire has been extinguished but two people were inside the property, including a woman in her eighties, who sadly died at scene.

Her next of kin have been informed and have been offered support.

The other person was a man in his thirties, who suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Police officers and fire service will be at the scene "for some time" while the investigation progresses.

Inspector Ryan Powell, based at Slough police station, said: “Firstly, our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s loved ones during this extremely difficult time."

Inspector Powell said the investigation is in its "early stages" but the fire is "not deemed to be suspicious at this time".

“There is no risk to other houses or individuals but anyone with concerns is welcome to speak to one of our uniformed officers.

“Anyone who knows anything about the fire should contact us by calling 101 or via our website, quoting reference number 1626 of today", Ryan Powell added.
