1. Vanilla Cakes opens new cake shop on Maidenhead High Street

Slough Observer:

A NEW cake shop has seen huge success after its grand opening in Maidenhead, on Saturday, June 24.

Vanilla Cakes opened its first store on Maidenhead High Street, specialising in celebration cakes.

Speaking about its grand opening, Vanilla Cakes operations manager, Anna Jozwiak, said the first day was "busy" with a "lovely supportive community".

2. Slough residents concerned as bin collection changes to biweekly

Slough Observer:

SLOUGH residents have shared their concerns over flytipping as bin collections have been changed from weekly to biweekly.

From June 26, the grey refuse bins and the red recycling bins are being collected on alternate weeks.

Leader of Slough Council, Councillor Dexter Smith, said the new collection plans are an “opportunity to address the need to double recycling rate to meet government targets”.

3. Wetherspoons pub in Slough awarded five-star hygiene rating

Slough Observer:

A SLOUGH pub has been awarded the top rating for their outstanding level of hygiene and food management.

The Moon and Spoon, located on high street, received a five-star rating when they were visited by Food Standards and Slough Borough Council on Thursday, June 22.

Following their inspection in 2019 this was to ensure that their standards are up to scratch and their premises are hygienic.

4. Uninsured drug driver arrested after being caught red-handed in Slough

Slough Observer:

AN UNINSURED drug driver has been arrested after being caught driving under the influence of cannabis in Slough.

The driver was arrested after a drug wipe confirmed he was positive for cannabis, on Farnham Road, Slough.

The police unit also caught the driver with “empty bags” of cannabis on the backseat as the car was seized.

5. Kyron Lee trial: Texts exchanged by murder-accused

Slough Observer:

ONE of the men on trial accused of murdering a 21-year-old received a text a day before referring to a man as a ‘scout’.

Khalid Nur, 20, Fras Seedahmed, 18, of Slough, and Mohammed Elgamri, 18, of Windsor, are currently on trial at Reading Crown Court for the murder of Kyron Lee on October 2 last year.

Mr Lee was knocked from his bike in Earls Lane by a Golf before being ‘chased’ into Waterman Court and stabbed.
