A man has been jailed for half a decade for sexual offences.
Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police, Carl Douglas Button, aged 47 of London Road, Waterlooville, Hampshire, has been sentenced after he was convicted of a number of sexual offences.
Button was convicted by a majority verdict by jury at Reading Crown Court of three counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by penetration and follows a trial at the same court, which concluded on April 21.
He was acquitted of one other count of sexual assault.
In July 2019 Button was working as a housing officer for a private housing association where he used his position to go into the woman’s home.
Button then subjected the woman, known to have been in her fifties and living in Ascot, Berkshire, to a serious and sustained sexual assault.
He was arrested nearly a year later in June 2020, and following further investigation was charged on May 25, 2022.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Laura Joyce said: “I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case, as without her support in our investigation, Button would not have been convicted and sentenced.
“This was a horrific crime. Button used his position of trust, visiting the victim’s home and abusing her for his own sick gratification.
“Thames Valley Police will always investigate such abuse and look to bring offenders to justice.
“If you believe you have been a victim of sexual abuse, please report it.
“If you are in immediate danger please call 999, or you can report via 101 or online.
“There is further information on support for victims of sexual offences on our website.”
Today (June 15) Button was sentenced to a total of seven years and will also have to sign the sex offenders register for life.
