A fashion upcycling competition has launched inviting residents to repurpose their pre-loved items.
Slough Anti-Litter Society and Slough BID are calling all local creative sewists and budding fashion designers to enter the Slough Fashion Upcycle Competition.
This competition showcases the creative side of people who are 16+ and work, live or study within the borough of Slough.
The theme is ‘From Litter to Fashion’ with the aim of creating a new wearable garment from pre-existing clothing.
Tirza Meinema from Slough Anti-Litter Society said: “Fashion upcycling is a great way to reduce waste and create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.
"It is also a fun and creative way to express yourself. I encourage everyone to participate in our fashion upcycle competition and show us what they can do."
Budding applicants are asked to send photos and videos of their garment by midday on August 26.
Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: Visual Impact, Design Concept, Construction Technique, Creativity and Use of Recycled Materials.
Rifat Iqbal Khan from Slough BID said “I believe that fashion can be both stylish and sustainable. Our upcycle fashion show showcases the creativity and innovation of waste and creating beautiful garments from discarded materials. By promoting upcycling, we hope to inspire a shift towards a more conscious and responsible fashion industry.”
Fifteen finalists will be chosen to show their garments on the Upcycle Runway on September 16 in the Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre.
There the jury will choose the winner and runners-up of the competition.
The prizes are 1st £150 Tesco voucher, 2nd £100 TK Maxx voucher and 3rd £80 Primark voucher.
