“COLDPLAY was playing, I’ll never forget that,” said a man who was allegedly stabbed in the head in Slough.

Duane Dunne, of Lomond Court, Slough, is on trial at Reading Crown Court charged with one count of wounding with intent and one count of possession of a bladed article.

The 44-year-old has been accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Shane Cooper at Upton Park Hotel on December 4 last year.

Taking to the witness stand on Monday (June 5), Mr Cooper said he remembers the incident ‘very well’ and it is like ‘it was yesterday’.

He said he was on the ground floor of the building with two other males, heard in court only as Gary and David, when Dunne allegedly entered the room ‘toying’ with a silver and red Stanley blade.

Mr Cooper said: “I remember like it was yesterday. Me and Gary were sitting on the bed and Duane was tapping and I was asked to leave.

“Coldplay was playing, I’ll never forget that. I came in, banging on the ground, on the floor, giving it all bully big boy ultimatum.

“He came down and starts giving me mouth. He came in and pulled a knife on. I said, ‘What the f*** was that for?’ And he said, ‘Get out’.

“I turned my back and he pulled a blade on me. I went upstairs and I was bleeding profusely. It was like a running tap – it was a blood bath.

“The young man stabbed me, he nearly killed me.”

Mr Cooper broke down on the stand, getting emotional as he recalled the alleged events. Following the incident, he claimed a friend followed him upstairs and told him he needed medical attention.

“My head was opened up,” he said. “I had to get my head closed up, I was in a bad way. I said, ‘Help me mate, help me.’

“I was frightened. David held me and embraced and said, ‘This is out of order, you need to report it’.

“I’m not out to get [Dunne], the fact of the matter is he used a knife on someone and could have killed.”

Mr Cooper later reported the incident to the police following a visit to Royal Berkshire Hospital to get medical attention.

It is still unclear why the alleged incident took place or what Dunne is expected to argue.

Dunne has denied the offences and the trial continues through this week.
