A MAN has been found guilty of wounding with intent after stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s father twice in Slough.

Ben Donnelly, 29, was acquitted of attempted murder at Reading Crown Court today (May 31) after the jury heard about the incident on May 22 last year in Market Lane, Slough.

Donnelly, of Scholars Walk, Langley, stabbed the 60-year-old man once in the chest and once in the leg at about 1.30am.

He was arrested and pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and possession of a bladed article.

However, it was the Crown’s case that the stabbing was an attempted murder.

After three hours and 33 minutes, the jury found him not guilty of attempted murder but guilty of the alternative charge of wounding with intent.

A cry of relief could be heard from the public gallery where Donnelly’s family has sat during the proceedings.

During the trial, Donnelly told the jury he had only intended to go to the home and ‘slit his wrists’ in front of the footage-capturing doorbell as his ex-partner had not been responding to his messages.

He was said he was ‘erratic, suicidal and desperate’ and had consumed various amounts of cocaine and whiskey prior.

The jury heard Donnelly had sent multiple messages to his ex-partner threatening to kill himself, her and her parents.

Prosecutor Patrick Dennis said Donnelly had also sent messages to his own mother claiming ‘two will die tonight’ on the evening of the incident and claimed only his ex-girlfriend replying to his messages can change his actions.

Donnelly was then caught driving past the father’s home in Market Lane, Slough on a motorbike at about 1.15pm.

The father heard a crash and went to the door to the find the defendant. There was a ‘tussle’ before the father was stabbed twice and the blade broke.

Donnelly ‘fled’ the scene and was later arrested and taken to Abingdon Police Station.

The case has now been adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

He will be sentenced at a later date.

Judge Amjad Nawaz told Donnelly: "You have been found guilty of a serious offence...a sentence of that will be a sentence of imprisonment."
