A SLOUGH nurse has been suspended after she was found guilty of ordering her own blood tests out of ‘desperation’.
Jolanta Czapska-Hill, who has been a registered nurse since 1995, was found ‘currently impaired to practice’ by the Nursery and Midwifery Council after a hearing in April this year.
The nurse was found guilty of ordered five tests on her own blood work, abusing her position, which she stated was ‘an error of judgement when unwell and desperate’.

She was also found guilty of incorrectly entering the name of a doctor on two of the tests, accessing her own medical records, and abusing her position as a midway to gain access to her employer’s resources.
The panel decided to suspend her for four months with an interim suspension order of 18 months.
At the time of the incidents, Czapska-Hill was working as a Band 6 registered midwife at Wexham Park Hospital.
Between August 26, 2018 and May 19, 2019, the nurse had ordered five tests on her own blood work – this totalled 24 different tests over a 10 month period.
On two of those tests, she incorrectly entered the name of the doctor required in the ‘requesting consultant/GP’ section in order to get the tests approved.
The other three tests were submitted under the requester ‘midwife’.

She was eventually discovered when a barcode was not scanning properly and a staff member noticed the unusual surname as another staff member.
In a statement to the panel, Czapska-Hill said: “At the time when I was unwell, I self-referred my blood samples obtained by another employees, which names I am unable to share.
“I self-referred via ICE, which computer system is designed exclusively to refer only, and it does not warn the user that they are not permitted to self-refer.
“I was unwell at the time, and therefore I was unaware at the time that this was wrong.”
She was also charged with accessing her own medical records on more than one occasion, which she denied, as well as abusing a position of power.
As a result, she was suspended for four months with an interim suspension order of 18 months.

In the concluding report, the panel stated: “The panel determined that the general public would be disturbed that a midwife had used her position for her own benefit to access clinical facilities in a way that was not readily available to other members of the public.
“It noted that Mrs Czapska-Hill, in this process would have inappropriately diverted resources away from legitimate midwifing purposes and practice.”
