Children will soon be getting stuck into a new challenge that will see schools compete to see who the best gardener is.
To emulate the popular BBC Gardeners’ World Wheelbarrow Competition, Slough BID is hosting its own Slough Borough Schools Wheelbarrow Competition.
The BID is working with 22 local primary schools, inviting them to decorate and plant a garden in a wheelbarrow.
Participating schools will be provided with the materials and wheelbarrows.
Slough BID manager, Clarissa Parker said: "I am a firm believer kids should be dirty and should have their hands in soil creating, gardening and partaking in outdoor activities."
The final designs will be on show in Slough Town Square for four days from June 14 to June 18 with the judging of the best in show to take place at 4:30pm on June 15.
There will be a panel of judges with the new Slough Mayor awarding the prizes.
Prizes up for grabs include the most colourful, most tactile, most fragrant and people's choice, as voted on by the public.
Winning schools will be awarded with a voucher from a BID business of their choice.
The displays will be returned to the schools so they can keep the wheelbarrow planters encouraging the children to continue with the planting bug.
