A MAN who stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s dad twice had only planned to capture his suicide on their Ring doorbell, a court has heard.
Ben Donnelly, 29, has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing a 60-year-old man on May 22 last year in Market Lane, Slough at 1.30am.
Donnelly, of Scholars Walk, Langley, has pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and possession of a bladed article but denies intending to kill his ex-girlfriend’s dad.

At Reading Crown Court, where Donnelly is on trial, he told the jury he had only intended to go to the home and ‘slit his wrists’ in front of the footage-capturing doorbell as his ex-partner had not been responding to his messages.
He was said he was ‘erratic, suicidal and desperate’ and had consumed various amounts of cocaine and whiskey prior.
The jury heard Donnelly had sent multiple messages to his ex-partner threatening to kill himself, her and her parents.
Taking to the stand, he said: “I wanted her to call me. I want to talk to her, to sort things out. I had intentions of killing myself on the Ring doorbell…by using the knife on me… on my wrists.
“I was going to kill myself on their drive. I was going to go to her house and tell the world and her family what was happening, about the relationship, and what I thought she was going.”

The pair had been in an on-off relationship for about two years and the court heard Donnelly had previously cut his wrists on her drive in October 2021.
He told the court: “I couldn’t stand being alive anymore. I didn’t want to be here, everything was too confusing for me. I didn’t like myself.
“I wanted her to know I’d done that. I wanted her to take some responsibility for how I felt.”
Previously in the trial, prosecutor Patrick Dennis said Donnelly had ‘crashed’ into the house of his ex-partner, who wasn’t there at the time, and there was a struggle between him and her father.

The man was stabbed twice before Donnelly ‘fled’ the scene after the blade handle broke.
When asked why he had sent ‘abusive, threatening’ messages, Donnelly said: “I loved [her] and I wanted to be with her and her family and be part of her family with her mum and dad and it just seemed like it was never going there and that wasn’t what I wanted.”
The trial continues.
