1. Slough Labour suffer brutal defeat as it loses grip on the council

The ruling Slough Labour Group faced a brutal battle at the polls in this year's election as the group lost its grip on the council.

The Conservative Group steamrolled at this year’s all-out election, which included brand new wards following a boundary review, and even defeated council leader James Swindlehurst (Lab) who lost his seat in Cippenham Green ward.

Unlike the previous two years where the Slough Labour Group won by a landslide, the council is now in no overall control, meaning no political party has won the majority.

2. Huge loss for Conservatives as Lib Dem’s seize control of council

Conservatives have lost control of the Royal Borough as they lost the majority to the Liberal Democrats in the 2023 local elections.

The previously ruling Conservative party managed to keep hold of only XX seats out of the 41 - of which they have held 22 since 2019. The Conservatives managed to retain its safe seat Sunningdale and Cheapside but beat Valerie Pike of the Borough First Party by only 124 votes.

3. Slough pollution mirrors Londons as ULEZ 'not in the cards for town'

New data has found that the level of air pollution in Slough mirrors that seen in London.

It comes as Slough MP Tan Dhesi said ULEZ is not in the cards for Slough, despite the zone approaching the town's border in August.

Mr Dhesi said: "In terms of ULEZ, that only applies to Greater London.

"I don't think that is even in the cards [for Slough]."

4. Iceland to leave Queensmere Shopping Centre

A supermarket giant has confirmed it will be shutting down its store within a Slough shopping centre.

Iceland, which is currently situated in the Queensmere Shopping Centre, has made the decision to close.

It comes after the long-awaited redevelopment of the centre began in January, where the western side of the site was closed to the public, with shops either closing or relocating.

5. Slough rape: Man guilty of raping 14-year-old girl

A man has been found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl in Slough.

Keegan Edwards was found guilty following a trial at Reading Crown Court last week.

On the first day of trial (Wednesday, April 16), the 22-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of assault by penetration.
