SLOUGH could see another data centre built if councillors agree as planners promise tens of thousands of pounds in financial contributions.
Applicant Equinix wants to demolish the existing manufacturing building in Banbury Avenue, which is within the Slough Trading Estate, to construct a five-storey data centre that has an internal floor that’s over 15,000 square metres.
It also proposes 13 diesel backup generators, a new substation, a service yard, a loading bay, 39 car parking spaces, 32 cycle parking spaces, vehicular and pedestrian access from Banbury Avenue and Dundee Road, and soft landscaping.

Equinix said this will create 35 jobs and has pledged £126,540 towards local employment training and business promotion and a further £3,000 travel plan monitoring fee.
It has until November 24 to sign off its financial commitment and other conditions if Slough councillors vote to delegate authority to the head of planning for approval at Tuesday’s planning committee.
According to The Times, nearly half of all the data transferred in online shopping activity to social media, video games to streaming television programmes, will go through the Slough Trading Estate.
Soley owned by Segro, the Trading Estate has 320 businesses on site, including Mars, O2, and Ferrari, employing around 10,000 people.

According to a data centre map, there are seven data centres in Slough. Two more data centres are planned at the former Akzo Nobel site on Wexham Road.
One was given planning permission and the other is yet to be submitted as the land was only given to the developer last year by the council for in excess of £100m.
