POLICE stopped 37 commercial vehicles on the M4 and found that 28 had something wrong with them.
Thames Valley Police’s Road Policing Team were targeting commercial vehicles on Monday last week (April 3) at the M4 westbound services in Reading.
In total, 28 vehicles had something wrong with them such as illegal tyres, no tax, drivers using their phone and more.

There were:
- 16 with an insecure load - Such as no covering over a loose load preventing items from falling or not being strapped down.
- 10 vehicles prohibited from being driven until their defect is rectified
- Three persons arrested in total, two for immigration offences and one for a serious non traffic offence
- Four with illegal tyres, including two on a HGV
- Four drivers hours offences - including using no tachograph and keeping no daily records
- Two graduated fixed penalties for being overweight – one by 900kg and another by 500kg on the trailer
- One seized for no tax
- One van driver using their phone
- One vehicle in a dangerous condition

A statement from officers said: “As well as illegal number plates, ADR checks, no MOT and words of advice on other issues.
“Pleased to say that there were no arrests for drink or drug driving.”
