A YOUNG man was allegedly chased with a ‘machete type’ weapon before being stabbed in the grounds of a Hindu temple in Slough, a jury heard.

Mohammed Rafaqit Kayani, 24, died from a fatal stab wound to the chest during an incident off Keel Drive on August 30, 2022.

Three men are currently on trial at Reading Crown Court in connection with Mr Kayani’s death - Riaz Miah, 21, of no fixed abode, is charged with one count of murder, as well as Hassan Al-Kubanji, 21, of Peabody Avenue, London.

A third man, Miguel Parian John, 41, of Concorde Way in Slough, is charged with one count of assisting an offender and possession of a blade/sharp pointed article in a public place in connection with the incident.

The court heard today (February 14) that Mr Kayani was chased from a park in Concorde Way to the Slough Hindu Temple in Keel Drive at about 1.40pm after 'a confrontation’.

CCTV footage was shown to the jury of the chase, where it was highlighted that the two defendants appeared to be holding ‘machete type weapons’.

Prosecuting, William Hughes said: “It’s the Crown’s case that Mr Kayani was killed by Mr Miah and Mr Al-Kubanji.

“It is the Crown’s case that they are drug dealers in the London area who travelled to Slough to sell Class A drugs.

“On August 30 last year, Mr Kayani was chased down and brutally killed in broad daylight close to a playground and near to a Hindu temple in Slough.

“Some sort of confrontation took place which lead to Mr Kayani running from the park into the grounds of the temple.

“Mr Kayani was then disarmed, stabbed and killed. Why this confrontation occurred may or may not come out during this trial but the fact is Mr Kayani was killed.”

The jury was shown CCTV footage of the incident which took place in the drive next to the Slough Hindi Temple.

Mr Hughes described the footage as the men ‘striking at each other’ before Al-Kubanji allegedly held Mr Kayani’s arm behind his back.

“There is a slash to the right shoulder area,” said Mr Hughes. “Then Mr Kayani falls to the ground.”

The defendants can then be seen leaving the temple grounds and heading back towards Concorde Way.

It is believed that the Miah and Al-Kunbanji were staying at John’s home, who Mr Hughes described as a ‘drug user’.

John’s involvement allegedly included the removal of the machetes which were found in a white sheet by police in a hedge near John’s home.

The trial continues.
