Windsor's once derelict railway arches have been given a new lease of life with new businesses including a brewery opening this festive period.
The arches, located on Alma Road have had a £500k investment by The Arch Company, as part of a £200million development plan named Project 1000.
The project aims to bring spaces left vacant for over a decade into use for 1,000 businesses by 2030.
The Arch Company said: "It is exciting to see an array of local businesses now making the most of the prominent location."
Just a stones throw away from Windsor & Eton Central Station, the city centre and the river, the Alma Road arches boast an ideal setting for businesses wanting to attract local customers.
Yesterday (December 15), Two Flints Brewery opened their new taproom at arches 25-26.
The family-friendly and dog-friendly business will be serving seasonal alcoholic and soft drinks alongside an assortment of bar snacks.
In the New Year, they will be bringing a rotating series of food trucks in, while maintaining a sustainable edge, with a commitment to donating one per cent of all gross annual sales to environmental non-profits.
Heidi Bakery has also confirmed their move into the arches, which will be their back of house to their home in Daniel’s department store.
The new residents will be joining Gas Station Fitness & Nutrition which opened in July this year, founded by two Windsor residents David and Lisa Palmer.
Having founded their multi-award-winning fitness facility on the Slough Trading Estate, the team of 12 were the first to move into a newly refurbished arch.
David said, “Lisa and I are delighted to expand our family business to the heart of Windsor.
"As local residents ourselves, we know that many of the Arches have been unoccupied for a number of years, and we are so excited to have had the opportunity to renovate 29-30 The Arches and bring our award-winning fitness and wellness brand to the area."
In addition to Gas Station, an existing arch customer has expanded.
Construction and Design Partnerships have expanded next door as their business continues to grow.
Senior Leasing Manager at The Arch Company, Jay Sharma, said: "The demand for lettings here has been really strong.
“It’s a positive change in Windsor now that our significant investment has led to new businesses taking over space in previously empty railway arches.
The Arch Company became responsible for 74 arches in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead in February 2019.
At the start of 2022 The Arch Company began Project 1000 to ensure the arches will become useful spaces for businesses to thrive.
