Slough's Al-Madani Masjid Mosque attended the British Beacon Mosque Awards, where it was in the top five nominees for Best Madrassah Service.

The eagerly awaited awards ceremony took place on Saturday, November 26, where Mosque representatives from all over the UK came together to celebrate the efforts and achievements of Mosques, Madrassahs, Imams, Alimahs and volunteers.

Shujah Hamid, who nominated the mosque said Slough's Al-Madani Masjid Madrassah Service is 'quietly brilliant'.

"All three of my children have gone through the network and I've seen how good they are at what they do.

"They are quite traditional and modest and are quietly brilliant.

"I have seen the syllabus and how dedicated the teachers are and the headteacher runs the school so well - they are constantly improving."

The Madrassah, which is held after school to teach children about the religion, has seen the implementation of trips, sports days and a points reward system where children are rewarded for uniform and behaviour.

A dedicated SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) is also present to support those with special needs - with an understanding of what additional requirements students need, whether it be sensory breaks or a longer time to learn content.

Shujah attended the ceremony with Slough mosque representatives.

"It was good to get exposure and recognition that in Slough it is a really good set-up," he said.

"The atmosphere was lovely, electric, with lots of fanfare and trophies - lots of rounds of applause and cheers."

The British Beacon Mosque Awards include 11 categories including Best Madrassah Service, Best Women's Service and Best Mosque Volunteer Award.
