A ‘DIRTY’ leisure centre has blamed a shortage in cleaning staff for uncleaned mess continuing to plague the site.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) reported on The Centre’s hygiene in January where dirt, scum, and grime were left untouched for months.
An angry user of The Centre in Farnham Road claimed the floors have been stained with ‘black dirt,’ mould in the steam room and showering cubicles, scum and grease on the pool handrails, and the toilets sitting unflushed.
The Centre’s management team apologised and said they will up their cleaning regime.

But months later, the man, who wished to remain anonymous, said nothing has changed since the story was first published.
He said: “[The Centre] gets cleaned willy nilly and not properly. We keep getting told it’s ‘a work in progress and please bear with us’.
“It’s not one of those things they should take lightly, this is health and safety. They need to be either closed down or reprimanded somehow because they shouldn’t be operating like this as it’s public health.”
Pictures sent to the LDRS show the cleanliness of The Centre has seemingly remained unchanged – with dirt, grime, scum, and grease in the changing rooms, pool area, and a shower cubicle.
Everyone Active, who runs The Centre, contract manager Luke Routhorn said they have been working to resolve this issue, but a national shortage of cleaning staff is making this hard.
He said: “We are continuing our efforts to recruit and have two full time cleaners starting over the next month.

“They will manage the cleaning processes, alongside our lifeguards and duty manager who are also responsible for ensuring the centre is kept both clean and tidy. This includes carrying out regular deep cleans of specific areas of the site on rotation.
“We apologise if expectations have not yet been met. We want to reassure customers that we are addressing the concerns and would encourage them to report any issues when they find them, so we can act immediately and prioritise the cleanliness of the site.”
