REVISED plans to build 46 Slough town centre flats on top of JD Sports and Poundland will be decided this week.
Despite securing planning permission to build 63 apartments in May 2021, developer Slough Property 2 Ltd put forward an alternative scheme, which will be decided by councillors sitting on the planning committee on Tuesday, October 25.
The new plans at 190-192 High Street consist of a five-storey building, holding six studios, 22 one-beds, and 14 two-bedroom apartments with five car parking spaces, 50 cycle bays, a communal rooftop garden, and all flats will have private balconies.

It also includes two ground-floor commercial units with two cycle parking bays for the proposed business spaces.
In comparison to the approved scheme, it proposed two blocks between six and 10-storeys in height that held 45 one-beds, 15 two-beds, and three three-bedroom apartments.
The developer said the 63 flats scheme is no longer deliverable due to the complexity of demolition and construction as well as the 'limited ability' to position the cranes.
Like the previously approved scheme, there is no affordable housing proposed. The developer previously said this was unviable due to the demolition costs.

This angered councillors at May’s planning meeting but liked the “good quality” design of the flats and the “rare” inclusion of three-bedroom town centre apartments.
However, the developer has offered £25,000 for an off-site contribution and is required to review their affordable housing provision to see if any can be provided on-site in the future.
Councillors have been recommended to defer and delegate the plans to the head of planning for approval subject to the developer securing a financial agreement with the council.
