A husky which supported a mother through cancer died in a fire which ripped through several Reading homes, it has been discovered.
While owner Daniela Radu has been searching desperately for her missing dog since July 28, Sky was lying dead on the first floor of her dog-sitters charred home in Red Cottage Drive.
She was discovered by construction workers on Wednesday (October 11) and a microchip scan confirmed her identity.
“I’m really suffering and my daughter is suffering in her own way,” said Mrs Radu, whose daughter is aged 10.

“I was looking after the dog while I was also very ill and the dog motivated me, making me walk daily.
“We didn’t expect this situation, never, it was very tragic and I’m very scared to have another dog.”
She continued: “She will be forever in our hearts and we will never forget here.”
Mrs Radu left Sky with a dog-sitter in Red Cottage Drive on July 20 and eight days later, the estate was evacuated as a fire spread through multiple buildings.
When Mrs Radu and her family returned from holiday on August 6, they arrived at the sitter’s house to find it charred by flames.

“I told her [my daughter] the trust and she really cried a lot. She asked me if she suffered - of course I’m thinking she suffered a lot – but I told her she didn’t feel anything and that she is an angel now.”
“I don’t want to think about her death – maybe she didn’t die straight away, maybe she was trapped in there with nobody to help her.”
Mrs Radu and her daughter want to plant a tree with Sky’s ashes along her favourite walk in Prospect Park or in their own garden.
Crews were on the scene of the fire for approximately five hours and 36 minutes, before handing the incident to police for investigation, which is ongoing.
