The formal announcement of the King’s reign to the people of Slough will take place today (September 11).

The event will be held in the Town Square, High Street, at 2pm.

The Mayor of Slough will express the town’s sadness at the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and its gratitude for the lifetime of service given by the UK’s longest-reigning Monarch.

The ceremony also marks the formal Proclamation to the people of Slough of the beginning of the King’s reign.

Members of the public are invited to attend.

Leader of the council, James Swindlehurst, said: “There is real sadness in Slough at the death of Her Majesty the Queen and as we mourn, we celebrate her life of devotion and service.

“Sunday’s ceremony is an opportunity for residents to hear the formal Proclamation announced in Slough, which both expresses the town’s immense gratitude for, and sadness at the end of, the life of Queen Elizabeth II and marking the beginning of the reign of King Charles III.

“I hope as many residents as possible will be able to attend.”

Mayor of Slough, Councillor Dilbagh Parmar, said: “It will be my honour to read the Proclamation for His Majesty the King Charles III and invite residents and organisations to join me in the Town Square.

Books of condolence have been opened in all the town’s libraries, the Chalvey Hub and at the council’s headquarters Observatory House.

All are available during normal opening hours other than Observatory House which is also open today and Sunday between 9am to 5pm.
