PLANS to build nearly 30 homes at a former mushroom farm could be thrown out next week over green belt concerns.

Developer Westbourne Homes is to have its outline plans, which only ask for access, layout, and scale to be considered only at this stage, decided at next week’s Maidenhead development management panel.

They want to demolish a storage building in order to erect 29 homes and flats, compromising one, two, three, and four-bedrooms, at Oakley Green Mushroom Farm in Oakley Green.

Nearly 70 per cent are proposed to be private while 30 per cent are proposed to be affordable.

No precise number of car parking spaces was given but the planning statement states there will be provision for both on-street and off-street which is in line with council policy.

Despite the development happening within the green belt, Westbourne Homes has proposed wildflower ‘non-mow’ areas, a communal orchard, hedgehog homes, bee hotels, and bat and swift boxes.

But planning officers were concerned over its impact on the green belt and have recommended councillors to refuse the scheme.

Within the planning report, officers state: “The proposed development would not only cause actual harm to the openness of the green belt but would also be harmful to the character of this rural area, as it would represent encroachment in the green belt and the introduction of a tight grained, suburban layout would have an intrusive urbanising impact.”

Residents and Bray Parish Council also feared this plan would add to the ‘gridlocked’ traffic on the A308 as hundreds of homes are soon to be built nearby, such as the proposed 450-homes site near the new ALDI store.

The planning meeting is set to take place on Wednesday, August 17.
