VISITING celebrities’ graves may seem like an odd thing to do in your spare time.

But if you are in a bit of a morbid mood, the graveyards around Berkshire are filled with famous historical figures.

Here are just some of the famous graves you can find across the county.

Ronald Allen (1930 – 1991)

Actor who starred in A Night to Remember, Hell Boats and Doctor Who.

 

George Cole (1925 – 2015)

British comedy actor who became famous in the 1950s starring in Laughter in Minder, Paradise, A Christmas Carol and Cleopatra.

 

Sue Lloyd (1939 – 2011)

Sue Lloyd set her sights high on becoming a professional dancer after seeing a performance of Margot Fonteyn at aged 11. She appeared in The Sentimental Agent, The Avengers and The Saint.

 

Frederick William Owen Potts (1892 – 1943)

World War I Victoria Cross Medal recipient served as a private first class in the 1st Berkshire Yeomanny.

Eton College Chapel

Thomas Murray (1564 – 1623)

A tutor and later secretary of King Charles 1st who was appointed Provost of Eton College in 1622.

 

Sir Henry Wotton (1568 – 1639)

British Diplomat and former secretary to the Earl of Essex who was knighted by King James I in 1604.

John Henry Farr (1911 – 1973)

George Cross recipient who saved a colleague from a dance zone in a huge explosion at the High Duty Alloys Factory in 1940.

CPT Edmund Geoffrey Abbott (1895 – 1974)

A Royal Navy officer and recipient of the Albert Medal, later exchanged for the George Cross.

Windsor Cemetery

Oliver Brooks (1889 – 1940)

World War I Victoria Cross Medial recipient, who served in the British Army during World War I.

 

Malcolm Fox (1946 – 1997)

A composer who studied at the Royal College of Music in piano performance and teaching. His most notable work includes Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing and Pathways of Ancient Dreaming.

 

Letty Lind (1861 – 1923)

Actress and dancer Letty Lind had a career spanning more than 30 years making her professional theatre debut at the age of five in Uncle Tom’s Cabin. She also appeared in Locked Out, at the Princess Theatre, London, Little Miss Muffet and The Exiles of Erin.

 

Francis Cornwallis Maude (1828 – 1900)

He served as a Captain in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, British Army.
