A PERSON has died after being hit by a train in Maidenhead yesterday evening.

British Transport Police confirmed that a person had died on the railway tracks.

This incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Officers say they are working to identify the person and contact their next of kin.

A spokesman from British Transport Police said: "We were called to the line near Maidenhead station at 6.45pm yesterday (4 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin."

A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service: "At 6.52pm on Monday, 4 April, we received a call from the Police to an incident on a railway line near St Chads Road in Maidenhead. 

"Two Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Maidenhead and one from Windsor Fire Station attended the scene alongside an Officer."

"Upon arrival, crews responded to reports of a casualty following the incident. Crews worked with the Police at the scene to evacuate passengers from the train."

"Crews were on the scene for around two hours and 10 minutes."
