Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth has revealed that some members of his first-team could feature in Wanderers’ Berks & Bucks Cup match against Ascot United.

The Chairboys travel to the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday [March 22] to face the Berkshire outfit in the semi-finals of the competition, as they aim to secure a place in the final.

Wycombe haven’t won the trophy since 2012.

In order to get into the showpiece, the Adams Park side will need to get past a determined Ascot outfit who have so far beaten Thatcham Town and Didcot Town in the second round, and quarter-finals respectively.

The Yellamen’s first round tie against National League Maidenhead United saw the Magpies withdraw from the contest due to a Covid-19 outbreak in their squad, whilst Wycombe entered the competition in the quarter-final stage.

They defeated Long Crendon 4-0 at Thame’s ASM Stadium, and if they were to progress, Wanderers could face either Reading or Milton Keynes in the final.

Speaking ahead of the match, Ainsworth said: “The development side will feature players such as Jack Grimmer, Jack Wakley, David Wheeler and maybe Brandon Hanlan and it’ll be a full-blooded game.

“I’m looking forward to it and I want to treat this competition with the respect as the Wycombe fans give it.”

One player that will certainly not feature for Wycombe against Ascot is striker, Tjay De Barr.

The Gibraltarian international has returned to the Chairboys following the conclusion of his short-term loan deal at National League, Eastleigh, but he hasn’t played since picking up a serious injury in their 1-1 home draw against Southend United at the end of February.

The Non League outfit said: “Tjay De Barr has returned to Wycombe Wanderers following the conclusion of his short-term loan.

“Despite making an instant impression in his four appearances with the Spitfires, he, unfortunately, picked up a serious injury in his final appearance for the club against Southend United.”

The 22-year-old played four times and failed to score.

In other loan news, Malachi Linton scored twice in King’s Lynn’s 3-0 away win at Aldershot, Ali Al-Hamadi and Connor Parsons both featured in Bromley’s 0-0 draw against Yeovil, and Max Ram and Andre Burley both played in Hungerford’s defeat at home to Eastbourne Borough.
