A ‘DANGEROUS’ Windsor man has been jailed after a man was stabbed more than 20 times in a supermarket car park.

Gjelbrim Murtati, of Springfield Road, was one of four men in their twenties locked up after the ‘sickening’ attack on a 29-year-old man in Sawbridgeworth, Herts, in September 2021.

The victim was in his car at a Budgens supermarket car park when he was approached by a group of men who began to attack him with a shovel, a wooden bat and a screwdriver before fleeing the area in two vehicles.

The victim was looked after by members of the public until emergency services arrived. Thankfully, his injuries did not prove to be life-threatening.

Four of the suspects were traced to the M25 motorway where they were stopped between junctions 22 and 23 a short time later and arrested.

An investigation was launched by the East Herts Local Crime Unit and the men were subsequently charged.

Today, they were sentenced as follows:

  • Gjelbrim Murtati, aged 27, from Springfield Road in Windsor, Berkshire, was sentenced to four years, after previously pleading guilty to GBH section 18 and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • Vigan Murtati, aged 23, from Station Road in Bishop’s Stortford, was sentenced to three years and nine months, after previously pleading guilty to GBH section 18 and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • Nakaj Durim, aged 27, from High Road in Barnet, was sentenced to 14 months, after previously pleading guilty to affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • Xhevahir Axhami, aged 29, Torriano Avenue in London, was sentenced to 12 months, after previously pleading guilty to affray.

Detective Constable Clare Halfpenny, who led the investigation, said: “This was a sickening attack carried out in broad daylight.

“Thankfully, despite being left with more than 20 stab wounds, the victim has not been left with any life-changing injuries. I’d like to thank the members of the public who assisted at the scene.

“I am pleased these dangerous men are now off our streets.”
