VACCINE centres within the Royal Borough are operating at reduced hours as the programme winds down.

Throughout 2021, queues of people were reported getting their Covid jabs across the UK in order to protect themselves from the virus.

The Covid-19 vaccination programme was the biggest in the country’s history and has been hailed as a success as a majority of people got fully jabbed.

Updating councillors sitting on the outbreak engagement board meeting on Monday, February 21, Caroline Farrar from the Frimley Clinical Commissioning Group said the vaccination centres have been “quiet for some weeks now”.

She said: “We had the big push in December, and we were successfully vaccinating thousands of people a day, but unfortunately people are not coming forward for boosters at the same rate now.

“So, sites have reduced their opening hours because it is not economic to keep them open [as] not enough people come forward for vaccination.

“I would encourage people to come forward for boosters.”

The Royal Borough has two vaccination hubs, including the former Lakeland Store in Windsor Yards and the Desborough Suite in Maidenhead.

Pfizer doses will be given at Windsor Yard from Tuesday, February 22, to Thursday, February 24, from 8:30am to 5:40pm.

The Desborough Theatre will also be administrating Pfizer on Saturday, February 26 from 8:30am to 12:30pm.

The vaccination bus will be travelling to various sites within the Royal Borough on those dates as well.

According to data from the Berkshire East Public Health Hub, 20,780 people aged 12 and above have yet to receive a single dose, the majority of which are aged between 20 and 50-years-old.

As of February 6, 65 per cent of the Royal Borough’s population have been fully vaccinated, the third most jabbed local authority within Berkshire.
