THREE rowers will be embarking on a world record attempt as take on a 24-hour fundraising challenge.

Windsor-based Team Excelsioar, made up of Caroline Hague, Nicki Kelly and Rachel Smillie, will row more than 250,000 metres in Windsor Royal Shopping Centre in shifts of one hour each.

The trio are taking on this world-record attempt as part of their training for Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2023 where the women will row 3,000 miles, unsupported across the Atlantic.

And they’ll be raising money for local charities Thames Hospice and The Dash Charity.

Ms Smillie said: “We’re conscious that endurance sports and adventure haven’t historically been seen as spaces for women, and we want to do our part to challenge that view.”

The attempt will start at 10am on March 12 in the shopping centre and is set to finish at 10am the next day.

Susan Blues, events fundraiser at Thames Hospice, said: “We are delighted that  Nicky, Caroline and Rachel have chosen to support Thames Hospice with their epic row across the Atlantic.

"It was lovely to meet with the ladies and to hear about how they will be preparing for their amazing challenge.

"Huge thank you to Team Excelsioar for choosing to support us, all the money they will raise will help us continue to provide specialist hospice care for our community.”

With both this world-record attempt, and their Atlantic rowing campaign, the team hope to inspire girls and women of any age to challenge themselves.

They have chosen this date for their world-record attempt to link with International Women’s Day earlier in the week.
