HAVE you ever wondered what’s it’s like to work at Mars Wrigley UK?
This National Apprenticeship Week, we caught up with two apprentices who shared their experiences of working at the chocolate factory.
The company, which is in Slough, includes big brand names such as Snickers, Maltesers and Mars.
And the factory offers two apprentice schemes to young individuals in manufacturing and engineering.
Alessia Francischelli, 18, of Slough, started at Mars in September 2021.
When asked what she most enjoys about being an apprentice she said: “Every day is a new day with new challenges and new tasks.
“There is always something new to learn and so many people with so much knowledge in the factory that I can go-to for more of an understanding.”
Ms Francischelli explained her experience is unique to any other experience she’s been involved with.
“The thing I’ve found most interesting during my time here is seeing the individual processes for each treat and how they have similarities and differences,” she said.
“Another part of Mars that interests me is all of the opportunities I have been given whilst being here for such a short amount of time.
“I can see my career growing and progressing here, and that’s really exciting.”

Another apprentice, Katie, 21, of Slough, began at Mars two years ago.
She said the team of people she’s worked with have contributed to how enjoyable her time at the company has been.
She said everyone goes “above and beyond” to help you and make you feel supported.
“I feel very appreciated by everyone at Mars, because as apprentices it falls on us to keep the business growing and bringing in new talent,” she said.
Although Katie said it can be stressful on site at times due to operating heavy machinery, she’s always been hand-son and loved the practical side of things.
After starting her apprenticeship on the Ripple line, Katie will go on to finish the scheme as one of the lead operators on Maltesers.
Starting her shift at 7am, Katie explained she begins with a handover before heading off to do quality and machinery checks throughout the day.
She said: “We’ll often shadow someone who will teach us about the different processes and parts and that’s always a good opportunity to ask questions.
“It’s sociable too, so you get to build friendships with new people all the time, every day.”
Giving her advice to anyone who is looking to apply for an apprenticeship at Mars, Katie said the company gives you an amazing experience working with big name brands.
She said: “A lot of people think working for such a big company is overwhelming, but it’s not what you think and isn’t something to be scared of.
“It’s a career and there is so much opportunity to grow if you just embrace it.”

Dean Clark, manufacturing development manager of Mars Wrigley UK, said: “We really value our apprentices and the contribution they make to our business, so we think it’s only fair that we invest in their future.
“By giving them the opportunity to grow in their roles, our Apprentices are empowered to take ownership of their career development.”
Mr Clark added 78 per cent of individuals from the scheme continue at Mars after graduating.
He said for those wishing to apply for the apprenticeship need to be a “great team player".
He said: “As long as you have a desire to succeed and make the most of the hands-on experience and qualifications on offer, you’ll have a hugely successful career at Mars.”
