GRIME, scum, and dirt remains left untouched at a Slough leisure centre despite promises this would be sorted. Now a senior councillor is to get involved.
Earlier last month, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) was contacted by an angry user of The Centre on Farnham Road on the state it has been left in for months.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said floors have been stained with ‘black dirt, mould in the steam room and showering cubicles, and scum and grease on the pool handrails for months.
Pictures were also sent in of human faeces and urine on some of the toilet seats and brushes as well as dirt in the men’s bathroom.
Everyone Active, who runs The Centre, contract manager Luke Routhorn said they will look to “immediately address” any concerns raised. They also sent pictures of parts of the leisure centre cleaned.
However, a few weeks later, the man has sent in new pictures that a majority of parts of The Centre remain uncleaned.
In the photos, ‘black dirt’ remain on the floors, the grease and scum on the pool bars have not been cleaned, and mould and filth in the shower rooms have not been scrubbed.

The Centre user said: “Customers are supposed to be at the focal point of hygiene and cleanliness because if anyone catches anything because of this dirty premises is not fair and it’s still disgusting.
“The floors are still black and dirty. They are blasé about it.
“They just want to take people’s money and not give the service they should. Someone needs to be held accountable for this.”
A premier membership for one adult cost £50 a month whereas a normal membership can cost £30 a month.
The LDRS also contacted councillor Sabia Akram, lead member for leisure, about The Centre’s hygiene.
She said this was “not acceptable,” “disgusting,” and “inexcusable” and will be adding pressure to Everyone Active to resolve this.
Cllr Akram said: “People are paying for a service and the council and residents have invested millions [of pounds] in a new centre. It must be maintained.
“For good measure, I will also write a very strongly worded letter to the company director/chief executive on behalf of residents and users.”

Mr Routhorn said: “It is incredibly important to us that our customers feel our leisure centres offer a clean and welcoming environment.
“Following recent concerns raised in relation to The Centre, we have reinforced our strict daily cleaning regimes and regular deep cleans, whilst introducing new processes such as hourly checks by colleagues, to keep the site as clean as possible.
“We are also in the process of reviewing external cleaning companies to undertake a further deep clean of our site on a quarterly basis. We apologise if expectations have not been met and want to reassure customers that we are addressing the concerns and will continue to work on improvements to the cleanliness of our site.”
