A WINDSOR woman has been spared points on her licence after being caught speeding because she was driving to meet a vulnerable person.

Elaine Van Vuuren, of Alma Road, Windsor, admitted going 37mph on the 30mph Horton Road in Datchet on January 29 of this year.

But the 55-year-old was handed a fine and no driving penalty due to ‘special reasons.’

According to a court file, the woman was exceeding the speed limit as she is an emergency situation carer and she was “attending a client who was vulnerable” and who had dementia and alzheimers.

The court document said the woman left her home “in a state of undress on a cold January morning” in order to get to her client.

Instead of points on her licence, Van Vuuren was handed a £60 fine and a order to pay a £34 victim surcharge.

The Windsor woman appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 12.
