POLICE will be investigated over the handling of an incident involving the death of a 49-year-old woman in Slough.

A murder probe was launched into the woman’s death on Tuesday evening (June 8), culminating in the arrests of two men in connection with the incident.

But the death was initially treated as ‘unexplained’ after her body was discovered at a property on Long Readings Lane on Sunday evening (June 6).

Thames Valley Police has now referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) in relation to this incident.

The force says this is “as a result of prior police contact”.

Thames Valley Police was contacted to further explain its referral to the IOPC, but declined to comment as the investigation into how officers handled this incident is now active.

What is the IOPC?

The IOPC is the body that handles complaints about police in England and Wales.

They investigate the most serious matters related to police conduct, including deaths following officer contact.

They are an independent body which makes its decisions entirely independently of police and government.

Last month, the IOPC ruled that a Thames Valley Police officer would have been sacked after he hit a boy who was in custody in the face before stripping him naked in a police cell had he not already resigned.

He will be barred from future employment within the police service as he breached police standards of professional behaviour.
