A shop in Slough has received a fine of over £5,000 after mice droppings were found strewn inside the store.
The foul waste was found on the shop floor and on shelves within Slough Store and Halal Meat at 267 High Street when inspectors visited the site.
It was also found in boxes containing foods, on food packaging and in cardboard boxes that contained butchers knives.
The waste was found in the store on October 10 last year.
The store was fined £1,300, forced to pay a victim surcharge of £190 and to pay costs of £2,500.
Magistrates took the defendant's guilty plea taken into account when the imposing the sentence.
Reading Magistrates' Court also imposed a fine of £1300 after the shop failed to ensure that adequate procedures were in place to control pests, in that the pest control which was present was inadequate as there still remained a pest infestation at the time of inspection.
In total, the fines stood at £5,290.
