A KEYLESS car has been stolen from outside a local home as thieves use device to capture signal from inside.

Thames Valley Police has warned people of keeping their keys safe to keyless vehicles after the theft.

The shocking incident was caught on video footage as the Mercedes was stolen in Windsor.

Officers said the keyless vehicle was locked and CCTV caught one man trying to open the doors in Dedworth.

It happened about 3.40am on May 28.

Another man then appears in the footage with what appeared to be a long cable - used to intercept a signal from the car keys inside and the keyless vehicle ignition.

CCTV showed the second man using the cable walk up to the front door, and by using the device to pick up the signal from inside the dark blue Mercedes GLC was unlocked. The thieving pair fled with the vehicle.

The force said: "The wire was used to copy the signal given out by the fob and obviously the fob was not protected in a metal case, but must have been left near the front door.

"The device with the aerial wire was obviously able to locate the signal from the fob and copy it, enabling the car to be entered and driven away.

"If you have a keyless car – the fob must never be left anywhere near the front door and kept at least 30 feet from the pavement, unless it is in a signal dampening metal container."

The stolen dark blue Mercedes GLC had a nnumber plate of NL** LVE.
