CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 24 homes on open space will go to planning committee for the third time for approval.

The plans were submitted by Slough Urban Renewal, a joint partnership between the borough council and Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd, and include constructing 10 two-beds and 14 three-bedroom homes with gardens and garages on land north of Norway Drive in Wexham Lea.

Forty-eight parking spaces are proposed and cycle storage is provided.

Previously, the application has been approved twice since 2018 but is now going back to the committee for approval following an agreement between the council, who is the freeholder of the site, and Wexham Court Parish Council (WCPC), the leaseholder.

The then Labour-controlled WCPC signed an agreement with the council back in 2016 to surrender this land worth £370,000 where the 24 homes are proposed to be built.

Since the Independents won the majority of the parish council in 2019, they sought to terminate that contract in order to protect the open space and keep the ‘non-refundable’ £235,000 deposit from Slough Borough Council.

Last year, a high court battle between the councils was looming, however, in the officer’s report, it appears this disagreement has been settled outside the courts and the parish will sign a section 106 agreement to surrender the land.

Councillors on the planning committee are set to convene face-to-face for the first time since the lockdown gripped the UK in March 2020 to consider this application on Wednesday, May 26.
