An inspirational six-year-old has raised almost £4,000 by running 30 miles in 30 day throughout Ramadan.

Mu’adh Awan set himself the challenge in a bid to raise funds for the charity Save the Children, after being inspired by a Save the Children poster about Yemen.

So far Mu’adh has raised over £3,700 for the charity, running around his local area.

Many of his friends have joined in during the challenge for moral support.

Mu’adh’s mum Amreen Awan, says: “Mu’adh was so sad when he saw a poster with a child from Yemen that he felt he wanted to do something to help.

"He decided to run 30 miles of the 30 days of Ramadan and raise £3,000.

"Despite his blistered feet and aching legs he has smashed his target with money still coming in. The support of friends and family and the local community has really motivated him.”

Mu’adh said: “I just wanted to help and I feel grateful that I have been able to raise money to help children in Yemen.

"Everyone is getting more generous now that it’s the last days of Ramadan and nearly the end of the challenge.

"I’d like to do another challenge for Save the Children and next time I will raise money for Syria."

Fidelma Meehan, Community Fundraising Manager says: “We are so grateful for the support of Mu’adh and his family - 30 miles is a long way for a six-year-old to run and he has shown real grit and determination, especially throughout Ramadan.

"Save the Children’s work is made possible by inspiring children like Mu’adh and their amazing commitment to make the world a better place for other children."
