SLOUGH’S deputy mayor has been suspended from Labour while he is under investigation.

The Observer (LDRS) understands the Wexham Lea councillor and deputy mayor of Slough, Haqeeq Dar, has been suspended by central Labour, pending investigation into complaints.

It is believed the local authority figure was suspended from the party earlier this month, although it is not clear of the exact date and reasons why.

When put to the Labour Party, a spokesman said: "The Labour Party takes all complaints extremely seriously and they are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures, and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken."

Cllr Dar became deputy mayor for the town last year and was also the chairman of the planning committee.

At a full council meeting on April 27, a vote of thanks was given to the retiring deputy, who was not present at the meeting.

The deputy leader of the council, councillor Sabia Akram (Lab: Elliman), thanked the ‘quiet and confident’ Cllr Dar for his service as deputy mayor during the pandemic and said it will be a ‘pleasure’ to see him back in the chamber.

The Conservatives and Independent councillor Madhuri Bedi withdrew their thanks.

Slough Labour and Cllr Dar were approached for comment.
