Berkshire's chief fire officer Trevor Ferguson has been awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service (QFSM) in the New Year's Honours list.
The award follows a recent inspection that saw the service graded as ‘good’ in each of our three main inspection categories.
Inspector Matt Parr concluded: "The people of Berkshire can be confident that they are being well-served.”

Chief Fire Officer Ferguson said: “Since I joined the service in 2014, the team have been working tirelessly to ensure that we provide the high-quality, trusted public service the residents of Berkshire deserve. In accepting the QFSM, I do so on behalf of all the amazing public servants at the Royal Berkshire Fire Rescue Service."
Prior to joining RBFRS, Trevor spent the first 24 years of his career in the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. He was educated at Listress Primary School, St Columb’s College and the University of Ulster.

This week Trevor thanked his family for the care and support which they have given him throughout his career. He also thanked the many previous colleagues who taught him so much about public service and the fire and rescue service.
He plans to retire in the summer, after almost 32 years in the fire and rescue service.
