A family man who became fed up with drug dealers openly operating in his cul-de-sac is now a Slough representative on Thames Valley Neighbourhood Watch Association.

Mabu Shaik, 51, works as an IT consultant. But in his free time he works with Neighbourhood Watch helping the police and Slough Borough Council pinpoint areas of concern.

It all started two years ago.

He said: "There was a problem with drugs in the cul-de-sac where I live - with dealers operating quite openly.

"At first I thought of moving but I realised that it might turn out to be just as bad somewhere else."

Instead he set about getting residents to sign up to Neighbourhood Watch schemes in Foxborough and Baylis and Stoke areas.

Now he is a representative for Slough on the Thames Valley Neighbourhood Watch Association working with police and the council to improve community safety.

He says Neighbourhood Watch schemes are flourishing across Slough.

He said: "I've made sure we have NHW presences every part of Slough. All our area reps are now working as one team in Slough.

"There is a strong team of 20 area reps in Slough, who will work with local co-ordinators to improve community safety. We are all volunteers trying to make a difference to our communities."
