WITH the national lockdown due to end on December 2, England will return to the tiered-system of Covid-19 restrictions.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced how the new system will work last night (November 23) and we will know definitively on Thursday which Tier Slough will be placed in.
A spokesperson from Slough Borough Council said it ‘seems very unlikely’ that the borough will be placed back into Tier 2 after lockdown – but could ‘potentially’ be placed in Tier 3, which has the strictest restrictions.
They said: “Our numbers are such currently that we are potentially a Tier 3 authority – but we can only say potentially because we won’t know until Thursday.

“The council is fully aware that potentially we will be a Tier 3 authority and we are planning accordingly.
“It is a decision the Government will make based on numerous factors. One being the bold numbers per 100,000 of the population.
“The other thing they take into account is our numbers of people over 60 – the people who are more likely to be hospitalised – the number of people in hospital, as well as any changes that are currently happening and any interventions that are going on.”
Although Slough has seen in a dip recently, the borough still has a high infection rate of 325 cases per 100,000 population from November 13-19, according to the BBC.
A total of 3,411 cases have been recorded so far as of November 23.

If Slough is placed in Tier 3, also known as ‘very high’ alert level, the following restrictions will apply:
- Pubs and restaurants will be closed except for delivery and takeaway only. In the old Tier-system, they were allowed to open if they provided a substantial meal.
- No mixing with people you don’t live or not in your support bubble indoors or outdoors in hospitality venues or private gardens.
- Indoor entertainment venues such as cinemas will remain closed.
- Spectator sports cannot resume in Tier 3.
- Rule of six applies in outdoor public spaces such as parks.
- Places of worship remain open – but cannot interact with anyone outside the people you live with or support bubble.
- Schools and universities remain open.
- 15 guests for weddings, civil partnerships, and wakes. Receptions are not permitted.
- Funerals can have up to 30 people.
- Everyone who can work from home should do.
- Non-essential shops, gyms, and personal care services will all reopen.
