A NEW roundabout on a village road has won financial backing from local authorities who hope its delivery will curb speeding drivers.
A bid to improve road safety at the junction of Lake End Road, Village Road and Court Lane in Dorney has won the £33,600 necessary to make it happen.
The staggered junction currently in place will be substituted for a new roundabout which Conservative Cllr David Anthony hopes will cut reckless driving in the area.
Dorney Parish Council agreed to commit £5,000 towards the project, with the Beeches Community Board offering up a further £13,600.
Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) will foot the remaining £15,000, Cllr Anthony said.
The new roundabout has been the subject of discussion since a temporary one proved “successful” around the time of The London 2012 Summer Olympics.
Highways England offered to install the new feature “as a gesture of goodwill” for disruptions associated with M4 motorway works.
A critical Design and Safety Audit must first be carried out by TfB.
Lighting columns have also been budgeted for.
It is understood more than 500 signatories gave their support to the project in a parish council-led petition.
“This project would improve road safety in this location,” said the parish council.
“It represents an excellent opportunity to secure a significant road safety improvement at a relatively low cost to the Community Board.”
Cllr Anthony added: “The parish council felt that traffic goes too quickly through Dorney and these measures will slow it down making it much safer.”
