THE Royal Borough has seen a new command team appointed in the local policing area.
Superintendent Michael Greenwood – who was deputy commander for two years – has taken on the role of Local Area Commander, a position formerly held by Superintendent Colin Hudson.
After joining the Thames Valley Police in May 1993, Supt Greenwood was involved in a variety of operational support roles in Reading, including as a firearms officers in the protection group, before being promoted to sergeant in 2007 and later the force search co-ordinator based in Windsor.
He re-qualified as a firearms officer in 2008 and worked as an operational firearms commander for Protection Group, looking after the Prime Minister at Chequers and other VIPs, as well as escorting high risk prisoners, in addition to his search role.
Before returning back to Windsor in 2018, Supt Greenwood also worked in Wycombe as an inspector in 2012, then as a neighbourhood inspector at Loddon Valley.
Supt Greenwood said: “It is a privilege to be leading the policing team for this area and to build on the successes that have already been achieved to prevent crime and to keep Windsor, Maidenhead and Ascot as safe places to visit, live and work.”
He added: “I am keen to focus on tackling crimes which have a significant impact upon our communities, particularly serious violence. As commander, I will support the excellent officers and staff of Windsor and Maidenhead to continue to deliver a high quality service to the local community.”
Supt Greenwood, who started in the role on 10 August, is joined by Chief Inspector James Senior, who took up the post of Deputy LPA Commander on 7 September.
Ch Insp Senior grew up in Slough and joined the force in 2007 as a police community support officer in Windsor and Maidenhead where he later worked in multiple places across the country as an officer.
While a sergeant, James often policed the Windsor guard change where he later became a detective inspector of Oxford CID, overseeing investigations involving series violent and sexual offences.
In April, he supported the force’s response to coronavirus as the staff officer of the Gold Commander, Assistant Chief Constable Christian Bunt.
Ch Insp Senior said: “I am excited to work with Superintendent Greenwood and the local teams to deliver the best service we can to the communities of Windsor and Maidenhead. Since joining the area, I have been impressed by the dedication and passion of our staff and look forward to continuing initiatives to reduce serious violence in the area.”
Superintendent Hudson has taken up the position of Head of Roads Policing for the Joint Operations Unit.
