Care boxes containing high demand products like cereal, baked beans, bread and toilet rolls have been donated to the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service charity.

The Windsor and Maidenhead based charity built the children's hospice at Snowball Hill and also helps and supports families with sick children at home.

It has been hit financially by the COVID-19 crisis as fund raising events had to be cancelled.

Foodbuy, a leading food procurement business based in nearby Chertsey, is donating over 1,400 essential care boxes to families with seriously ill children across the UK, to support them during the coronavirus pandemic. As part of this initiative 75 care boxes go to the Alexander Devine charity for distribution to the families it supports.

Foodbuy has teamed up with Together for Short Lives, the UK charity for seriously ill children and their families to make the deliveries.

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service continues to respond to the changing needs of its families, helping to provide symptom management, respite visits, clinical assessments, virtual contact, music therapy, specialist play and bereavement support. Its team of specialist nurses and carers also provide end of life care when it is needed.

Helen Bennett, Director of Care at Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service says: “We are really grateful to Foodbuy and Together for Short Lives for arranging these essential care boxes for Alexander Devine families. We’re looking forward to getting them out to families across Berkshire over the next week.”
