The new cafe at St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School in Langley Road has been formally opened - four months after students were welcomed into the new facility.

The new development was completed in August.

But Tuesday's ceremony gave Father Kevin O'Driscoll the chance to bless it, watched by guests who included council officers, governors, staff, parents, headteachers from other schools and representatives from the Diocese.

The new cafe is the first building to be completed at the school since 2003. It is also used as a study room for Sixth Form students when they are not in lessons.

Paul Kassapian, the school’s headteacher, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to provide a brand new facility, which will significantly improve pupil's school experience. I would like to thank all those who have contributed to the successful completion of this exciting project.”

The school has been delivering education to pupils since the 1890s.

Following his appointment as headteacher in 2017 Mr Kassapian has made a number of changes including increasing the number of pupils being admitted into Year 7 and the sixth form.

As a maintained school which continues to be the responsibility of Slough Local Authority, funding was provided to improve facilities for pupils in 2018. A range of building solutions were considered before a new café facility on an existing part of the school site was decided on.

It provides a breakfast, break and lunchtime service to pupils and is proving to be very popular.
