A LAUGH a minute? No, no no...a laugh a second@ Oh, yes it is. Murder for Two, this brilliant double-hander and superb musical has got them rolling in the aisles at the 'Royal' with a raucous take on a classic whodunnit, writes Paul Thomas.
It's Dragnet meets Poirot meets Cluedo meets musical chairs...and you will be picking your ribs up off the floor. Be prepared to ache 'cause you won't stop laughing.
This really is a masterstroke of impresario and Theatre Royal owner Bill Kenwright and Theatre Director Robert Miles to get this fantastic production into town.
A hilarious high-energy musical whodunnit, Murder For Two is a madcap murder mystery with a twist, a hysterical blend of music, mayhem and murder.
When a famous novelist is found dead at his birthday party, it’s time to call in the detectives.
The only problem is, they’re out of town.
Enter Officer Moscowicz, a neighbourhood cop who dreams of climbing the ranks.
With the clock ticking, this is his chance to solve the crime before the real detective arrives.
Originally a massive off-Broadway hit, Murder For Two is directed by Luke Sheppard, winner of Best Musical Olivier for In The Heights.
The pairing is sensational. Jeremy Legat plays all the suspects with hat changes, vocal gymnastics, singing, dancing and impressions to die for. His characterisation is quite simply out of this world...the talent on show here is worth the ticket money alone.
Sidekick Ed MacArthur, is just sensational as the hapless cop-cum-wannabe detective.
His ability to draw on so many murder mysteries to play out his role is the perfect foil for his partner in crime.
The lyrics and music to this wonderful whimsy are slick with story telling encased within a most brilliant score with comic duets on the piano from the pair as the case is played out.
As an audience you feel part of the show...at one point one member is brought up to play the next victim.
This is how theatre should be...without a shadow of a doubt.
The denouement is delightful after so many twists and turns in the plot.
Fast, furious and funny, you'll be picking your ribs up off the floor to give them a rest.
The Dudez and I had to release hands as we gripped each other harder and harder with every nuance, gesture, look and innuendo.
Your will have tears rolling down your cheeks at the antics on stage.
We were lucky we came...bring it back Bill and not just for a few days, bring it back all week and we'll come every night, it's that good.
Ditch the tellybox and be really entertained by a class act which oozes charisma, charm and a hot whodunnit that will warm you like a toastie on a clod night.
Best thing all year...it would be criminal to miss it.
Murder for Two, Theatre Royal Windsor, tonight (Friday) and tomorrow.
