GREEN SPACES are to be disposed of to make way for housing.
Norway Drive recreation ground, near Wexham Secondary School, is to be divided in half, with the easternmost section planned to be transformed in 24 new homes.
Another plot of land, at the back of the Village Health Centre, Mercian Way, is also to be disposed of, with between five to six new homes to be constructed there.
Slough Borough Council initially announced the disposal of both sites back in June.
Although Slough Borough Council said it had ‘consideration to concerns’ raised by residents, the building work is to proceed regardless.
Slough Borough Council received a petition with over 30 signatures asking them to reconsider disposing of a section of Norway Drive Recreation Ground, claiming that the loss of the land would be detrimental to the local people, and that Wexham Court Parish Council had not acted with ‘due care and attention.’ An investigation by Moot Hill Partners failed to show Wexham Court Parish Council had been involved in any wrongdoing, and asserted that “because the objections we considered had a small supporting base, if is to be inferred that a majority of the 7,000 Wexham Court parish residents are likely to be either in favour or neutral”.
A spokesman for the Slough Labour Group said that a planning application will submitted in the next since six months. The spokesman indicated that affordable housing will be prioritised.
The redevelopment is being lead by Slough Urban Renewal, in partnership with Morgan Sindell Investments, as part of Slough Borough Council’s Small Sites Strategy, which will see the development of 100 new council homes across a number of small green spaces.
Cllr Zaffar Ajaib said: “These two sites complement the council’s Small Sites Strategy, and although commercially led, will provide mixed tenure, high quality housing, which will contribute to meeting the housing need.”
Under the terms of Slough Borough Council’s agreement with Morgan Sindell, 50 per cent of the net profits, plus the land value, will be returned to the council to fund other services.
