A VILLAGE blighted by heavy goods vehicle traffic could have some relief as part of a scheme to limit them travelling in residential areas.
Residents and businesses have been asked for their views on proposals to put a bus lane and width restrictions in Poyle Road, Colnbrook to prevent HGV traffic from using the roads.
The plan, drawn up by Slough Borough Council, would install the measures near the Punchbowl Pub after residents expressed concern about HGVs using the northern section of Poyle Road and Bath Road to access Poyle industrial estate.
A bus lane would be introduced in the middle of the carriageway as part of the plans, with non-HGV traffic able to pass alongside the bus lane on a width restricted carriageway.
Councillor Fiza Matloob, commissioner for transport and highways, said: “These plans are about improving the environment for residents.
“The northern part of Poyle Road is not really designed for HGVs, whereas the southern route via Horton Road is much more suitable.
“By diverting lorries to the more suitable route we will be improving safety and reducing noise and pollution for residents, without affecting normal traffic or the buses.”
The measures, which would be in place by April 2017, will force HGVs to access Poyle Road from the south, via Horton Road. New road signs will warn HGV drivers of the restrictions.
A consultation will run until Wednesday, October 12 and feedback can be given by email to TfS@slough.gov.uk, via Facebook at www.facebook.com/transportforslough, on Twitter @SloughCouncil or by writing to Transport and Highways, Second Floor West, St Martins Place, 51 Bath Road, Slough, SL1 3UF.
